Michigan's two peninsulas have many gently rolling roads that are great for cycling. The Lower Peninsula has plenty of quiet county roads. Maps of the best routes are available from several sources (see Resources below). The Upper Peninsula has fewer secondary roads but there is less traffic, however, the towns are far apart. Mackinac Island, at the northern tip of the Lower Peninsula, is a popular resort area with restricted automobile traffic making it ideal for biking.
