New Hampshire offers plenty of quiet back roads where you may come across one of the dozens of covered bridges in the state. There are some challenging climbs in the White Mountains. The Kancamagus Highway through the heart of the White Mountains is a National Scenic Route with a wide, paved shoulder great for cycling. However, in summer there are plenty of tourists stopping to cool off in the road-side stream. If you have plenty of energy, you might consider entering the annual Mount Washington Bicycle Hill Climb, an 8-mile grind along the road to the top of the 6,288-foot high mountain.
