Whitewater rafting on the Penobscot and Kennebec rivers and sea kayaking along the rugged coast are the two most popular guided activities in Maine. Most whitewater rafting is based at The Forks. Canoeing is also popular, particularly on the gently flowing Saco River and the challenging Allagash Wilderness Waterway.
