Trail Name: Talcott Mountain State Park
I have hiked there: A few times
I last hiked there in: Apr, 104
Trails that I hiked: I have hiked the main trail which the view of the valley is obscured by forestation(trees). Periodically from the main trail, I have hiked over to the path the abuts the edge of the sheer cliff side of the mountain that faces the Farmington Valley.
Favorite trails: The two that I have aforementioned above.
Best time to go: Before and after winter as to avoid snow and ice on the steeper part of the trails.
Trail marking: Very good
Trail maintenance: Very good
Rating: 4 stars
What I liked: I liked the lesser steep portions of the main trail simply because I have a type of muscular dystrophy. As the moutain is 1000 ft. in height, the scenery is very breathtaking. Today was lovely, therefore I took my sweet old time and enjoyed the peacefullness and the surrouding beauty.
What I disliked: The two steepest portions of the main and side access trail are approxiamately between 50 to 60 degree incline. For myself I was able to make it up these with the use of a hiking stick.
Additional comments: Hazard #1-The views given from the path that abuts the side of the moutain should be fenced off for safety reasons. This ascends up to a 1000 ft high ridge. Also the possibility, even though it is minimal, older people or physically challenged people could slip coming down the steep parts.
Routes to take as I can think off the top of my head; It can be accessed from I-84 east, I-91 north, Rte. 202, Rte. 10, Rte. 44 and Rte 4. If you are coming either way on Rte. 44, you will be in Avon. You want to turn left or right on to Nod Rd. There is an Inn at the corner.
