New Hampshire's White Mountains are a hiking Mecca, especially the Presidential Range where the tallest mountains in the state are found. The highest mountain in the northeast, Mount Washington, tops out at 6,288 feet. Mount Monadnock (not to be confused with the one in Vermont) in the southern part of the state is said to be the most frequently climbed mountain in North America.

The Heritage Trail is a 230-mile long walking and biking trail that is being developed by the NH Parks and Recreation Dept. When completed, it will run from the Canadian border to Massachusetts through the towns of Pittsburg, Colebrook, Lancaster, Franconia Notch, Franklin, Concord and Nashua. A 15-mile section is completed in Lancaster.

Trail ratings are submitted by visitors to this site who have hiked the trails and thus are subjective. You can rate the trails at an area that you have visited by clicking on the "Rate this Area" link found under that area's listing.

For info on shared-use trails, see also Mountain Biking in New Hampshire and Rail Trails in New Hampshire.
