US National Hiking Organizations
The following clubs are involved in hiking on a national basis or in the development and protection of long-distance trails (see also Major US Trails):
American Hiking Society is dedicated to promoting hiking and to establishing, protecting and maintaining foot trails in the US. It has more than 130 member trail clubs and organizations and nearly 10,000 individuals. www.americanhiking.org

Appalachian Long Distance Hikers Association - West - www.aldha.org
Appalachian Trail Conference, Harper's Ferry, VA, oversees maintenance of the AT by its member organizations and protects the trail from encroaching development. www.ATConf.org
Continental Divide Trail Alliance (AHS), Pine, CO is building a hiking trail 3,100 miles along the Continental Divide. www.cdtrail.org
The Desert Trail Organization, Madras, OR - dedicated to building a trail from Canada to Mexico, primarily through desert terrain. www.madras.net/dta
