A1 Trails is your gateway to hiking in northeastern USA. You can access the regional page for a northeastern state by selecting from the pull-down list at the top left-hand corner on any page. Each regional page lists hiking trails with ratings submitted by visitors to the trails. To get details about a specific destination, click on its name in the trail list and information about that destination will appear in a pop-up window. Recommend or Rate a Hiking Destination You can suggest a trail for listing by clicking on the Add a hiking trail link located at the bottom of each regional page. Rate a trail by clicking on the "Rate this Trail" link located beneath each listing. Hiking in the USA | Hiking in Canada Hiking Tips, Events and ClubsHiking Tips - info on safety, ethics and other guidelines. Hiking Events - calendars of hiking events in the US. Hiking Clubs - lists clubs and organizations throughout the US. Hiking links - lists links not included elsewhere on this site. Hiking vs WalkingIn this website, the word "hiking" is used to indicate trails that have a natural soil treadway. Trails surfaced with gravel or asphalt are listed in the Rail Trails and Bike Paths section of this site. Generally, the destinations listed on this site have trails with a total length of at least 5 miles, so if a place has only a few short trails it may not be listed. Trail MaintenanceMany hiking trails were constructed entirely by volunteer labor and require annual maintenance to keep them usable. If you are a frequent hiker, consider helping out by donating labor or money. Some groups such as the Adirondack and Appalachian Mountain clubs hold weekend and week-long trail maintenance sessions for volunteers to work on the trails. The work can be hard and the only material reward is a T-shirt (if you're lucky), but the feeling of satisfaction is unsurpassed. You can find the names of such organizations in the Hiking Clubs pages or in the Resources section of each regional page on this Web site. Browser RequirementsThese pages are best viewed using JavaScript-enabled browsers, preferably version 4 or better of Netscape Navigator or Internet Explorer. Hiking in Canada | Hiking in the USA
