Trails: Mount Kineo is located on a peninsula jutting out into Moosehead lake. In the summer it is accessible by a short ferry ride from the Rockwood boat landing. There are three separate trails that can be used to reach the summit of Kineo: 2.2 miles round-trip for the short trail. 8.2 miles round-trip for the long trail. At the top is a fire tower that can be climbed. The views of Moosehead Lake and the surrounding lakes and mountains are spectacular. Turn right on a road marked with signs for the Rockwood docks. It is about a 10 minute ferry ride to Kineo. In the summer ferries leave about every hour, although the times maybe inconsistent. Additional comments: Please don't bring children or pets on the Indian trail, it can be very dangerous. There are plenty of places to stay, and eat nearby.
