Trail Name: Adirondack Park
I have hiked there: Several times
I last hiked there in: Jan, 2005
Trails that I hiked: most of the marked trails in the high peaks region.
Favorite trails: trail to algonquin and wright, and Skylight via Marcy Dam.
Best time to go: March/April, you'll need snow shoes and a early start because daylight is scarce, but not alot of people and the snow makes the scenery so much nicer.
Trail marking: Very good
Trail maintenance: Very good
Rating: 4 stars
What I liked: trails were challenging but easy to follow. Some of the nicest scenery in the northeast.
What I disliked: nothing really, the parking fee kind of sucks

Area name: Adirondack Park
Times hiked: Few
Date last hiked: Nov, 1997
Trails hiked: I don't remember the names, but I did the loop over Mt. Algonquin to Lake Colden and back to Adirondak Loj along avalanche lake. It's a spectacular hike. I also hiked from the trailhead near the John Brooks Lodge (forget the name) to the top of Mt. Marcy. It was another great hike, although not as beautiful as Avalanche Lake. Both of them were some of the best east coast hiking I've ever done.
Favourite trails:
Best time to go: I've been there twice, both times in November. Its quite cold then, but few people.
Trail marking: Very good
Trail maintenance: Fair
Rating: 5 stars
What I liked: It's a real alpine/wilderness setting in the east. You need a plane ticket for a comparable hike.
What I disliked: A lot of small trees have been cut for firewood. There was a stretch of the trail that was apparently shared with ATV users, who had torn it apart and left huge mud puddles to wade through.

Area name: Adirondack Park
Times that I hiked there: Several
Date that I last hiked there: Sept, 2001
Trails that I hiked: Everything imaginable
Parts of Northville Placid Trail
Trails mainly in HIgh Peaks
Favourite trails: Favorite Trail-Vanhoevenberg Trail from the ADK Loj to the Summit of Mt. Marcy
Also-Lake Colden Trail from Marcy Dam to Lake Colden- extremely hard, you are on the side of a cliff dropping into Avalanche Lake, go over lake on suspended boardwalks twice, climb up and down ladders with packs-half mile strech takes up to an hour!
Best time to go: Early July, Late August
Trail marking: Very good
Trail maintenance: Very good
Rating: 5 stars
What I liked: Trails are mostly uncrowded and well maintained
Spectacular views, tough challenge
What I disliked: Some trails are missing bridges and are hardly maintained at all-person other than Ranger travels maybe twice a week on these trails.
Comments: Don't-Trail from ADK Loj to Mt. Van Hoevenberg- unmaintained, bridge over 35 foot long river gone-up to 2 and a half feet deep since bridge is gone trail is lost on other side of river. Recommended only with a guide!

Do-Trail from Newcomb trailhead to ADK Loj including side trails to Mt. Marcy, Skylght, Colden-20 miles of exceptionally hard terrain, especially within three days of a rain- when rain- trail can be up to a foot deep with water, very muddy!!!

Caution- ADK High Peaks trails are twice as hard in mud! Very Dangerous espcaily on sloped land

Caution-Winter conditions up to 6 feet of snow cover! Snowshoes and/or crosscountry skis are recommended and/or required for some trails (Mr. Van Ski Trail)
Nearby Attractions-Saranac Lake, Whiteface mountain Ski Resort, Ausable Chasm, Canada, The Great Escape, thousands of lakes, enjoyable scenic drives (Rt 30), camps, Camp of the Woods Christain Resort
