Area name: Letchworth State Park Times that I hiked there: Several Date that I last hiked there: Nov, 2001 Trails that I hiked: I have hiked trail 18, Lee's Landing
and the entire trail system (including a portion of the FLT) on
the Eastern side. Favourite trails: I would have to say that the eastern rim
trails are my favorites; they traverse several steep gullies and
are not for those that have clumsy feet but the views and sense
of peaceful, serene forest is rivaled by little else in the
region. I live a short drive from there and have found nothing
else in the area that match the splendid beauty of this trail
system. Best time to go: Autumn, summer and spring , in that
order; autumn being the best. Trail marking: Very good Trail maintenance: Fair Rating: 4.5 stars What I liked: I enjoyed the views that the trails close to
the gorge afford and the solitude and peace of the ones deeper in
the forest and the general lay-out. What I disliked: In wet conditions some of them range from
difficult to (at the southern end) downright treacherous. Comments: I would avoid these trails in wet weather if you
are not in very good condition and in a few places there are
mosquito breeding grounds and passing through them gaurantees
bites that will look like poisen ivy during the right/wrong
time. Submitted by: Ronald E. Meyer from: Churchville, NY Date submitted: Jan 10, 2002
