Trails: Allegheny National Forest has 10 separate hiking networks with about 100 miles of trails. In addition, there are 87 miles of North Country Trail running through the forest and two state parks with about 40 miles of trails. A 15-mile orienteering course is located near the Hearts Content National Scenic Area.

Trail name: Tanbark Trail
Trail description: Excellent trail for intermediate or new hiker. The north end is 600 ft. elevation gain. (North to south) Large rocks at half-way point. Plenty of reliable water. Camping anywhere with no fee. Organized campground near the south end with water and vault toilets.
Trail surface: Some rock, lots of gravel, some roots
Difficulty rating: Some challenging sections, lots of intermediate, lots of easy,

Directions to the trailhead: North end: 10 miles north of Tidioute or 12 miles south of Warren Pa. on US Rt 62
South end: At forestry Rd 116 near Hearts Content

Trail name: Hickory Wilderness Trail
Trail description: some rock, lots of gravel, some mud, some roots
Difficulty rating: Lots of intermediate, lots of easy,
Trail description: Excellent trail for a 2 day excursion, or one day walk-thru. Plenty of reliable water with campsites. Mostly in wilderness area. Organized campgrounds at beginning.

Facilities: Restrooms, water fountains, picnic tables, campgrounds
Directions to the trailhead: Starting at Warren Pa. South on Rt 337, Pleasant Dr. for 12 miles. Signs to Hearts Content Campgrounds. Trailhead and parking on the east side of road. Well marked.
