About A1 Trails

Our Objective

A1 Trails is an independently owned and operated website whose objective is to provide a portal to information about self-propelled trail activities in the US. Our intention is to provide an open, interactive framework for the promotion of the "silent sports" of bicycling, mountain biking, hiking and cross-country skiing as well as long-distance multi-use rail trails.

We do not attempt to provide a complete description of each destination--only a brief synopsis. In most cases, the listing includes the address of a site with more details about the trails. A1 Trails is interactive in the sense that users can submit ratings and comment on the trails that they have visited.

History

This site originated from two books, Canadian Cross Country Skiing Handbook and Cross Country Skiing USA published in 1996 and 1997, respectively. Shortly thereafter, the Internet revolution was in full swing so we created an online directory of cross-country ski areas in an attempt to keep the information up to date. Other trail activities were added soon after and the website changed its name to www.a1trails.com.

We cannot provide any additional information about the destinations listed on the site, other than what is listed on our pages. To find out more about a destination, you will have to contact the organization (park, trail association, etc) responsible for that destination. If there is no web site or address listed for a destination, try contacting the regional tourism association.

Unfortunately, due to liability considerations, we cannot offer any recommendations on any services or offer any advice on activities (see the disclaimer), but we will soon provide a forum where visitors can discuss these subjects amongst themselves.
