Lodges, Resorts and Inns

Lake Placid Area - hiking in the Adirondack High Peaks, xc skiing at several centers. Dozens of lodgings are available in town and nearby.
The Adirondack Mountain Club operates the Adirondack Loj, located in the High Peaks region about 5 miles southeast of Lake Placid. There are rooms ($$) and bunks in coed dorms($) with breakfast. There is also a 4-person cabin ($105), a 16-person cabin ($230), tent cabins ($27 for two) and a backcountry lodge. Johns Brook Lodge, a backcountry lodge and two cabins, located about 3.5 miles along the trail from the Garden (a trailhead west of Keene Valley) cost $24 in summer with breakfast, $14 in spring and fall (2000 rates).

Keene Valley, located on the east side of the High Peaks, offers a quieter alternative to Lake Placid with several lodging options such as:

Hostels

Most hostels are affiliated with the New York branch of Hostelling International. Rates are per person for HI members in 2000. Nonmembers are charged about $4 more. Hostels generally do not provide linens, blankets or towels.
