Maine is an outdoor lover's paradise with plenty of opportunities for a wide range of activities. The White Mountains of western Maine offer a less peopled experience than the peaks of New Hampshire. Baxter State Park is a huge wilderness area containing Mount Katahdin, the highest peak in the northeast. Other popular activities throughout the state include whitewater rafting and canoeing.
