Trails and Outdoor Recreation in Minnesota

Opportunities abound for outdoor recreation in Minnesota, particularly in the Arrowhead region of the northeast. The region has three long-distance trail systems: the Superior Trail along the peaks overlooking the lake, the North Shore Ski Trail and the Gunflint Trail for skiing and mountain biking. Also located in the northeast are the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness and Superior National Forest, as well as dozens of lakeside resorts.

Cross-country skiing is very popular throughout the state, perhaps due to the Scandinavian ancestry of many of its inhabitants.
