Area name: Arcadia Management Area Number of times riding the trail: Several times I last rode there in: Sept, 2004 Trails that I have ridden: Penny Hill, old camp trail, others Favorite trails: All of them have their charms Best time to go: spring and fall. Heavy deer flies in summer Trail marking: Poor Trail maintenance: Fair Rating: 5 stars What I liked: Lots of room, lots of variety, not too many mountain bikers. What I disliked: Those pesky mountain bikers who think they own the trails and quietly wisk by frightened horses, with not so much as a good morning. Hey, bike riders, we have to share the trails! Horses often can't hear/see you coming and a hoof in the spokes will be an unhappy occasion for everyone involved. Hear you on the horse poop, will try to do better but rest assured it is not as easy as you think. Try to think of us as people out enjoying nature on a non-mechanised vehicle and we will try to think the same of you. Comments: Great place all around, nice there is something left for us to share. Area name: Arcadia Management Area Number of times riding the trail: Once I last rode there in: Sept, 2004 Trails that I have ridden: Favorite trails: Best time to go: Trail marking: Poor Trail maintenance: Fair Rating: 5 stars What I liked: Really great technical riding here. The downhills are a blast and the rocks and roots never seem to end. This type of terrain is completly different from the Long Island flatlander stuff we are used to but by the end of the day, the 6 of us who were riding liked this trail system very much. Met up with a local couple and they showed us the best 12 mile loop the place has to offer. Thanks again Keith and Jayla!! What I disliked: Very Big and Very easy to get lost. Bring a map and a compass. Comments: Submitted by: Craig from: Lake Grove, Long Island, New York Date submitted: Sept 14, 2004

Area name: Arcadia Management Area Number of times riding the trail: Weekly I last rode there in: July, 2004 Trails that I have ridden: All of them- or nearly so. Favorite trails: Breakheart, Mount Tom Best time to go: Year 'round. However, this area is open to hunting in the winter, including on Sundays. Trail marking: Fair Trail maintenance: Very good Rating: 5 stars What I liked: Huge diversity of trail types, from sphincter tightening descents, to rolling singletrack alongside streams, to nasty gravelly hills, this place (13,000 = acres) has it all. What I disliked: The trails are great, but they'd be better without all the horse shit. Comments: Bring a map, or better yet, a guide. I've been riding there every week since November with an Arcadia Trails Guru. Its great to have a riding buddy who knows all the trails. Good maps are available at Mystic Cycle Centre for one. Have fun! Submitted by: GT from: Mystic, CT Date submitted: July 16, 2004

Area name: Arcadia Management Area Number of times riding the trail: Weekly I last rode there in: May, 2003 Trails that I have ridden: Yellow dot, white dot, north/south trail, Favorite trails: Yellow dot trail is pretty good...Technical at times, smooth at others, good for recovery. Watch the babyhead rocks. Best time to go: During Hunting's off-season (March-October) Trail marking: Fair Trail maintenance: Very good Rating: 5 stars What I liked: I perfected my skills on these trails, and my experience at Arcadia helped me kick ass on trails out of my area. Some decents are so hairy that when I hit them I'm thinking, "If I fall, I'm going to die"...I love that feeling. What I disliked: The Horse shit. There should be a law stating that all horseback riders must carry a folding shovel, and when the horse goes, it's the horseback rider's responsibility to shovel the crap off of the trail. That's my only beef about Arcadia. Comments: Ride at your own risk! Amateur riders be careful! There's alot of baby head size rocks that'll send you flying if you're not careful. Area name: Arcadia Management Area Number of times riding the trail: Several times Date last ridden: Sept, 2002 Trails ridden: The ones that I could find.. Favourite trails: Any single track trail I can find. (Without getting lost.) Best time to go: When you think it's good time to ride, then head out the door, and hit the trail. Trail marking: Fair Trail maintenance: Very good Rating: 5 stars What I liked: This network of trails is not very well marked, however, if you start in the morning, you'll find your way out if you get lost. The trails in this place are unbelievable. There is singletrack for gennerally every ability. There are mountain biking trails, as well as dirt roads. There are also some horse back riding trails which I found to be an exciting challenge. My suggestion, get up early, head to the area, and park your car where you see a trail. If you head down escoheag road, about 2 miles down is a small log cabin. This is one of the Headquarters buildings which, however, is rarely open, but if you go down the driveway, all the way to the bridge at the bottom of the hill, there is plenty of parking, and there are alot of trails in just this area. I highly recomend these trails, especially if your planning an adventourous all day ride in the near future. The trails are maintained fairly well, and there is something for everybody. So pack up the car and head for some of the greatest trails around!!! What I disliked: Horse back riders, but you only see them about twice the whole day, and the trails belong to them too, so grim and bear it. You'll have fun anyway. Comments: Be smart, bring water. Some of the terrain is really difficult. Only a few hills and your out of breath and in need of water. Because the trail network is so large, it may take a while for someone to find you. It's just a percaution. And, don't ride alone. Take a friend, just in case you have to rough it for a while. So remember, bring a friend, and hydrate or die. Submitted by: J.
