Passes are required to enter most state parks. Many of New Hampshire's state parks have campgrounds. National Forests in New HampshireWhite Mountain National Forest straddles the Maine-New Hampshire border and encompasses the Presidential Range and Mount Washington, the highest mountain in the Northeast at 6,288 feet. Ranger stations are located at five towns: Bethlethem, Gorham, Bethel, Plymouth and Conway. The Whites have many superb hiking trails and a few mountain biking trails. There are several commercially operated cross-country ski areas in the region such as Great Glen Trails. Bear in mind that passes must be purchased for parking at all trailheads in the White Mountain National Forest. Several campgrounds with no electric hook-ups are located throughout the forest and are administered by Pro Sports.
