Heartland State Trail

Trail description: The Heartland State Trail is a 49-mile trail from Park Rapids to Walker. The Paul Bunyan Trail intersects the Heartland Trail near Walker and shares the same pathway for several miles. At the north end of the trail from the town of Cass Lake the Migizi Trail circles Pike Bay on an 19-mile paved loop through the tall red pines of Chippewa National Forest.

Trail surface: The entire trail has a paved surface. South of Walker a separate parallel treadway is provided for horses.

Camping: National Forest campgrounds are located at Walker and Cass Lake. Commercial campground are in Walker and Park Rapids.

Getting to the trail: Walker, near the mid-point of the the trails, is about 70 miles north of Brainerd on the Paul Bunyan Trail. There are nine parking lots along the Heartland Trail.

Sections that I biked: From Park Rapids to Dorest, and from Nevis to Dorset, and from Walker about 2 miles (so far).
My favourite sections of the trail: The whole trail has its nice points !!!

Likes and dislikes: The trail is beautiful, & it is a great trail to take kids along with - very safe!!
Comments: Dorset has our favorite stopping point for great ice cream!!
