20   Top   Down     Rating: 0.5 of 5 stars

Trail name: Lakelands Trail State Park
Times biking the trail: Once
Date of last visit: Sept, 2005
Sections that I biked: Gregory to Stockbridge
My favourite sections of the trail: None
Best time to go: None for biking
Trail marking: Very good
Trail maintenance: Poor
Rating: 0.5 stars
What I liked: The scenery was terrific, but I didn't see much of it becaus eI spent most of my ride looking for horse hoof divots and soft sandy spots to avoid.
What I disliked: So much of it was in horrible shape. Horses have beaten this trail to the point where it is just full of holes. Much of it is also soft sand -- like trying to bike on the beach. I have a hybrid, but I still had to get off my bike and walk quite a bit of it.
Comments: Disappointing. I'd say if those in charge of this trail want it to be a bike trail, they have to keep horses off of it. They just do too much damage. Lots of other trails (like the Kal-Haven) have created a separate bridle path a few feet way from the hiking/cycling trail. And the soft sections made this trail unpleasant in some places, and almost dangerous in others. I'd be willing to buy a daypass to support the trail if these problems could be corrected. As it is, disappointing. It is so pretty there, but there's no way I'll be back.

Best time to go: Any
Trail marking: Very good
Trail maintenance: Very good
Rating: 3.5 stars
What I liked: I like that it is mainly wooded. I have seen deer in the morning hours and a few rabbits here and there. The colors in the fall are great!
What I disliked:
Comments: Check it out this fall. We have the Appleumpkin days in Tecumseh with the Kapnick Orchard Festval, in October. We also have the Clinton Fall Festival going on the end of September. Perfect time to visit the trail.

Trail name: White Pine Trail State Park
Times biking the trail: Weekly
Date of last visit: August, 2005
Sections that I biked: all sections, usually north of Big Rapids
My favourite sections of the trail: White Bridge over Muskegon River
Best time to go: all, especially in fall to see color of trees

Trail maintenance: Fair
Rating: 4 stars
What I liked: lots to see, mostly flat, some elevation to climb in a few areas
What I disliked: around ballpark in Grand Rapids needs more signage
Comments: Paris Park is right on the trail and a good place to camp. Ride north to Reed City (paved) and then to Evart on the Pere Marquette trail. Also beautiful south of Big Rapids but not paved, need fatter tires

Trail name: Saginaw Valley Rail Trail
Times biking the trail: Weekly
Date of last visit: July, 2005
Sections that I biked: All of it
My favourite sections of the trail: The part that leaves the edge of M-52 and cuts straight throw the country.
Best time to go: Anytime the weather is nice.
Trail marking: Very good
Trail maintenance: Very good
Rating: 5 stars
What I liked: The scenery and the way the trees hug the road and the trail cuts through the county instead of following a busy road.
What I disliked: They should have mile markers on both sides of the post not just coming from St. Charles. There should also be a bathroom built other then a port-a-potty. They need to post how we can donate to the trail as well, and anything they plan on doing to make the trail longer or better.
Comments: There is at least seven places to eat at, not including the two parks if you wish to bring something to eat. There is one place just south of St. Charles on M-52 to stay over night or longer. The trail begins at the river where you can fish or boat as well.

Trail name: White Pine Trail State Park
Times biking the trail: Weekly
Date of last visit: July, 2005
Sections that I biked: Comstock Park to Russell Rd (N of Rockford)
My favourite sections of the trail: Belmont to a Couple miles North of Rockford.
Best time to go: Earyl Spring and Fall (easier to see the river)
Trail marking: Very good
Trail maintenance: Very good
Rating: 5 stars
What I liked: The trail has been repaired and is in very good shape in this section now. The Views of the Rogue River are great and there aren't many street crossings.
What I disliked: Wish it was paved further North. Otherwise nothing.
Comments: Trail Side Treats (Ice Cream) in Belmont, Custards by the Dam and Rockies in Rockford (Ice Cream).
The Wolverine World Wide Tannery smells bad for about a quarter mile north of the dam in rockford but its tollerable, and hey they make great shoes.

Trail name: Musketawa Trail
Times biking the trail: Once

Sections that I biked: From Marne to Reveana & return.
My favourite sections of the trail: The area around Conklin.
Best time to go:
Trail marking: Very good
Trail maintenance: Very good
Rating: 4.5 stars
What I liked: The scenery was great, out in the country. The trails were very wide. It was very quiet, too, a change from Kent Trails, which I ride regularly. The signage was very well placed & easy to read. The street crossings were not ramps & made crossings streets a breeze (and traffic was very light to non-existant).
What I disliked: Only the horse droppings.

Trail name: Lakelands Trail State Park
Times biking the trail: Once

Sections that I biked: Stockbridge to Gregory, and Gregory to Pinkney
My favourite sections of the trail: None
Best time to go:
Trail marking: Fair

What I liked:
What I disliked: The trail has been totally destroyed by equestrian use of the trail. Bikers, walkers and handicapped can not now use this trail at all because of the millions of holes in the riding surface by the horses.
Comments: The trail has been destroyed by equestrian use. Its a beautiful area of Michigan but now because of the horses using the trail, nobody else can use it. They need a sererate trail for horses to use, let the bike riders and walkers have a seperate trail.

Rating: 5 stars
What I liked: Great trail. Couldn't ask for a better training trail for the bike leg of Triathlons.

Date of last visit: May, 2005
Sections that I biked: from 44, I explored the trail both ways.
My favourite sections of the trail: Didn't have any
Best time to go: I don't kow
Trail marking: Poor
Trail maintenance: Fair
Rating: 1 stars

What I disliked: I want a little variety in my workouts, and this trail offers none. I know that this is a flat state, but the trail couldn't have been any straighter or flatter. It was monotonous.

What I liked: Horse traffic has destroyed the trail surface.
What I disliked: Horrible surface quality
Comments: Avoid this one. The DNR needs to decide wether this is a multi-use trail or a bridle path. Horses do way too much surface damage to allow both.

Rating: 4 stars
What I liked: It's mostly peaceful with nice scenery

Trail name: Kent Trails
Times biking the trail: Weekly
Date of last visit: Sept, 2004
Sections that I biked: From Cedar Springs to Grand Rapids & back. (This Year I hope to go farther).
My favourite sections of the trail: From Cedar to the first part of Rockford it's pretty good, & from the last part of Rockford to fith third ballpark it's good.
Best time to go: I've only gone on it in the spring, summer, & fall.
Trail marking: Very good
Trail maintenance: Very good
Rating: 5 stars
What I liked: scenery is GREAT!!! also not to buggy or anything
What I disliked: Sometimes crowded. can't keep a good pace in some area's. Rockford has a wolverine plant the REALY REAKES.
Comments: Some area's of the Trail have bumps where the moles got or something, they can get vary annoying. like I said vary scenic, and a good smooth ride most of the time. flat, with only one slight uprising for a bridge. once I got past the fifth third ball park area I discovered anouther part of the trail, which only countinued for about a mile, the I saw anouther biker going further, so I followed and he led me to anouther section of the trail. when that trail ended I found myself at a bridge which overpassed the Grand River. I biked My way to lenard ST. where I then ventured my way to yet anouther side street that I took to Rambow Music where I playd Guitar for about an hour. Finding my way back was cake due to my God given directional skills which, on occasion, save my mom from mass panic of getting lost. :) The white pine trail is GREAT and I recomind all biker try it out at one time or anouther.
