My favourite sections of the trail: Lockport to Schoen Place in Pittsford and Fairpoert to Palmyra

What I liked: The scenery is great. The trail surface is good to great in most areas. Best of all the trail is almost flat for almost 90 miles.
What I disliked: The section of the trail between Schoen Place in Pittsford to Faiport
Comments: The section between Pittsford and Fairport is a little bumpy. The large black things above the canal that look like they go up and down are called guard gats, they are closed in the event that the canal wall fails and floods the area below or when the canal is drained for the winter.

Trail name: North County Trailway
Times biking the trail: Several
Date of last visit: August, 2005
Sections that I biked: From Baldwin Place in Somers to Croton Manor
My favourite sections of the trail: Past Route 35 which connects with 202...beautiful landscape. Croton Manor Park is lovely also. After crossing from Railroad Park in Yorktown there is a pond ringed by purple wildflowers.
Best time to go: Spring, summer, or fall
Trail marking: Very good
Trail maintenance: Very good
Rating: 5 stars
What I liked: The Scenery is lovely, breathtaking. The layout is also good...you can't get lost, and there are frequent rest areas consisting of benches where you can take a break.
What I disliked:
Comments: Only hazard is there are a lot of children biking the trail, and you have to be very aware when they're riding toward you...they don't always have the common sense to realize that they need to make room to let you pass.

What I liked: well marked with a variety of scenery!!!. You cross a town every few miles in case you need water or other supplies in an emergency.

Comments: Watch out for the water snakes. They are not afraid and do not move. Snowmobiles in the winter can be a hazzard if you are walking or cc skiing.

Sections that I biked: New Paltz to Rosendale.
My favourite sections of the trail:
Best time to go:
Trail marking: Very good
Trail maintenance: Fair
Rating: 4.5 stars
What I liked: Very nice rural trail that passes through farmland with nice views of the Ridgeline.
What I disliked: Could be better maintained as parts of the trail do need brush cut back and drainage improved especially after a heavy rain. But overall one of my favorite trails and well worth the drive.
Comments: Trail can be muddy after a heavy rainfall. The Railroad trestle in Rosendale is a nice spot to have lunch but there are no benches to sit on. The Main St. bistro is a great spot for food after the ride.

Trail name: South County Trailway
Times biking the trail: Several
Date of last visit: June, 2005
Sections that I biked: From Yonkers to Elmsford and beyond to connect with North County Trail
My favourite sections of the trail: Ardsley to right before Elmsford. Mostly wooded, well paved and maintained.
Best time to go: Anytime it isn't snow covered
Trail marking: Very good
Trail maintenance: Very good
Rating: 3.5 stars
What I liked: It's a very pleasant trail, mostly flat, following the old railroad line along the Saw Mill Parkway. Passes through populated areas and some industrial areas. It's very convenient.
What I disliked: Can be crowded on weekends as it runs through some populated areas
Comments: Trail crosses exits from Saw Mill Parkway in several locations. Must be careful at these crossings as cars are exiting SM at highway speeds. Nice park a little north or Ardsley with millpond and benches. Passes through some industrial areas. Connection to North County not complete but can be made by riding in traffic through Elmsford. No snacks immediately near trail

Sections that I biked: Entire Length (at one time or another)
My favourite sections of the trail: Definitely the Croton Reservoir Bridge (before it was a bike trail back there we would go in the Summers to jump off the bridge, illegal to do now).
Best time to go: Spring/Summer - Great colors in the Fall too
Trail marking: Very good
Trail maintenance: Very good
Rating: 4 stars
What I liked: My location to it, I can pick it up here in Mahopac with a short 1 minute ride.
What I disliked: Can become crowded during the Summer months but being aware of those around you will still make it an enjoyable ride.
Comments: I've been biking this trail for the last 7 years or so and will continue to do so as long as I live in the area. It is also a great way for me to get to work as I work at Yorktown Cycles just off the trail in Yorktown Heights.
