Trail name: Glacial Drumlin State Trail
Times biking the trail: Several
Date of last visit: June, 2004
Sections that I biked: Waukesha to Cottage Grove and back one time in one day, otherwise have done many sections of 20 miles or more at a time
My favourite sections of the trail: The scenery is great for most of the trail. I would say the part between Jefferson and Lake Mills would probably be the best for scenery, with two big rivers, etc.
Best time to go: Spring, for flowers and fall for coolness
Trail marking: Very good
Trail maintenance: Very good
Rating: 4.5 stars
What I liked: Love the scenery and the way the trail is laid out for evenness. valleys filled in and so forth. It is a nice pretty trail that will build muscle and stamina before you even know it
What I disliked: I hate the way the wind changes direction, or so it seems every time i go out there. It always seems like it is blowing in your face, but still fun for biking for a while and then camping out and then riding again the next day
Comments: Watch out for the wild parsnip! It is really taking over and was especially bad between lake mills and cottage grove. The campground near lake mills is primitive but very secluded and private. It is really pretty and the cranes enjoy waking you up at 5 am. Pretty massive oaks, etc. surround most of the sites.

Trail name: Glacial Drumlin State Trail
Times biking the trail: Few
Date of last visit: May, 2004
Sections that I biked: Cottage Grove to Waukesha
My favourite sections of the trail: East of Dousman where it is paved, but watch for families stopped on the trail, blocking your path. Also, from the lake just west of Lake Mills to Jefferson: Great scenery, excellent bridges
Best time to go: Spring or Fall
Trail marking: Very good
Trail maintenance: Very good
Rating: 4 stars
What I liked: The scenery is really great from lake mills to Jefferson.
What I disliked: After 40 miles of crushed limestone, the paved section was really nice. Next time I go this way, I'm going by county roads until I get to Dousman.
Comments: I really liked the park at Lake Mills. Great picnic area. Go a bit west and there are spots to picnic by the lake. Beautiful, but bring the bug-spray.
Beware all the potholes created by chipmunks. If you're on a suspension bike fine, but my steel-frame bike let me know when I hit them.
Much of this trail is wooded, keep your eye out for sticks/etc that could pop a tire.
If you are touring and going east, avoid the New Berlin trail. UGLY!
