Trail name: Military Ridge State Trail
Times biking the trail: Once
Date of last visit: July, 2003
Sections that I biked: Verona to Dodgeville and back.
My favourite sections of the trail: The slight uphill heading east from Klevenville to Mt. Horeb is very scenic. The entire area from Blue Mounds to Barneveld is also very scenic, visiting Blue Mound State Park is a must!
Best time to go: Summer
Trail marking: Very good
Trail maintenance: Very good
Rating: 4 stars
What I liked: Three attractions worth seeing; Blue Mound State Park, Governor Dodge State Park, and Cave of the Mounds (not marked-you have to look for it). Scenic throughout, yet not isolated from civilization if you encounter a problem. Great places to eat very close to the trail.
What I disliked: Loose gravel and sand for about three miles west of Ridgeway.
Comments: While riding alongside Highway 18, be cautious at every street crossing as cars can exit 18 directly onto the side street in a split second. There is a rutted-out driveway in front of a pig farm just west of Ridgeway, as well as a hilly area where the trail is made up of loose gravel.
