Vermont is best known as a cycling destination with plenty of rolling hills and river valleys. Hiking is also a popular activity, particularly in the Green Mountains that form the backbone of the state. Winter beckons cross-country skiers to dozens of centers across the state.

Two long-distance trails span the state from north to south: the Catamount Trail (for skiing) and the Long Trail (for hiking).
