Lassen Volcanic National Park

Trails: There are ungroomed trails at the north and south entrances to Lassen Volcanic National Park. The North entrance has 10 km (6 miles) of challenging trails. South entrance has 30 km (18 miles) of intermediate trails. There are other trails and unplowed roads within the park. Trails are patrolled on weekends by volunteers.
Caution: There may be avalanche hazard on certain backcountry routes. Other dangers to watch out for are thin ice on lakes, weak snow around hot springs and sudden winter storms.
There are also some groomed trails a few miles south of the park's southwest entrance near Lassen Mineral Lodge.

Location of trails: Lassen Volcanic National Park is about 50 miles east of Redding on Highway 44. The Main Park Road through the park is closed in winter. Tire chains are required in the park from October through May. Check the road conditions at CalTrans or 1-800-427-7623.
