Trails: Trails are groomed at each of two cross-country ski centers in Vail: one at Golden Peak resort and another at the Vail Nordic Center. Golden Peak has 15 km groomed for classic and skating, the Vail Nordic Center has 17 km (10 miles).
The Tenth Mountain Division backcountry hut trail system traverses the mountainous region between Aspen and Vail. Seventeen huts spread out over over a trail network of more than 100 miles provide opportunities of hut-to-hut ski treks of a week or more. Check road conditions before departing. Golden Peak resort is on Vail Valley Drive, just east of Vail Village. There is a fee for parking at the base of the ski resort but a free bus service operates throughout the town of Vail. To get to the Vail Nordic Center, take the Vail exit off I-70 and head 1 mile east on the South Frontage Road, turn right on Vail Valley Dr and go 1/2 mile to the the Vail golf clubhouse.
