Trails: At Aspen/Snowmass there are 60 km (37 miles) of trails groomed for cross-country skiing (most are for classic and skating). Two nordic centers, one at Aspen Golf Course, the other at Snowmass Golf Course, are connected by a challenging 15-km (9-mile) corridor. The area is one of the largest free groomed ski trail networks in North America.
The Tenth Mountain Division backcountry hut trail system traverses the mountainous region between Aspen and Vail. Seventeen huts spread out over over a trail network of more than 100 miles provide opportunities of hut-to-hut ski treks of a week or more. Trail fees: No charge (winter 2008-9) but donations (suggested $5/day) can be deposited in collection boxes at the trailheads.
