Trails: Several ungroomed trails throughout Rocky Mountain National Park are suitable for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. Snowfall is usually best on the west side of the park. Read the park's winter newsletter for recommended trails.
Caution: avalanche danger may exist in some areas. The park is at a high elevation which may cause fatigue and shortness of breath.

Location of trails: Rocky Mountain National Park is 70 miles northwest of Denver. The west entrance to the park is at Grand Lake, the east access is at Estes Park. Trail Ridge Road (Highway 34), the only road through the park, passes through the 12,000 foot elevation and is usually closed in winter. Check the park's website for road conditions.

Comments: very few hazards, but can be high traffic on the main trails
