Name of XC Area: Stony Pond State Forest Times that I have skied there: I last skied there in: , Trails that I skied: # 1, 17, 23, from the 2nd parking lot to the ponds and back My favorite trails: Trail marking: Very good Trail grooming: Fair Rating: 4 stars What I liked: It is seldom, if ever, crowded here. It's a good place for those who like some solitude. Mixed woods are alwasy very pretty and this seems to be in a snow belt, there is usually more on the ground here than in nearby areas. So far I've only been on the lower trails, toward the ponds. I snow shoe, not ski. At least on the lower trails there always seems to be some alternate trails not frequented by the skiiers. The trails offer good rewards for moderate labor on shoes. What I disliked: No maps and no good map available online.
A table or some benches scattered around would be nice. There is no place to rest. Comments: Submitted by: John Barr from: Manlius, NY Date submitted: Dec 22, 2003

Name of XC Area: Stony Pond State Forest Times that I have skied there: Several times I last skied there in: Feb, 2000 Trails that I skied: All trails My favorite trails: 111,12,13 Trail marking: Very good Rating: 4 stars What I liked: The scenery is breathtaking on the upper trails across the road from the pond areas. Peace and quiet are abundant. The trails are not groomed by machine but ski trails are usually always there when you arrive. It is exciting to get there first before anyone else has left their ski marks. What I disliked: These trails were walked on September 30, 2003. I found them well marked. However, the caution steep hill sign on a steep hill (believe it was 11) was missing from several years ago. I found no trail maps as there was years ago. There have been many new trails added above and below the road and it would be helpful to either have them available on the site or on these website. Comments: The trails above were cleared well since the wind storm from hurricane Isabel. I saw where alot of cutting had been done to clear the upper trails. I would like to ski these trails this upcoming winter season, however, would like to have an updated map. Submitted by: Linda Stanton from: Durhamville Date submitted: Oct 1, 2003
