Trails: The 18 km (11 miles) of trails at Escanaba in the Northern Highland-American Legion State Forest are groomed for cross-country skiing. An outer loop of 14 km encircles three smaller loops. The trails wind over hills, around lakes and are rated Intermediate.
From the north end of the Escanaba trails a 10 km trail links to the two loops of the Lumberjack Trail. All the trails are designated Intermediate.

Location of trails: The Escanaba trails are about 8 miles southeast of Boulder Junction. From Boulder Junction, take Hwy M about 4 miles south, turn east onto Nebish Road and go 3.5 miles to the parking lot on the north side of the road. The Lumberjack Trail can be accessed either off Highway K, just east of Nixon Lake Road, or on Concora Road, 1 mile east of Boulder Junction.
