Backcountry Skiing

Pick up a map of backcountry trails at the nearest ranger station before heading out as maps are seldom available at the trailhead. When skiing in backcountry areas, it is especially important to follow the basic winter safety precautions.

Backcountry touring and hut-to-hut trips are possible at several areas in the Tetons and Sawtooth Mountains.

Cabins are also available from the Caribou National Forest Service.

AvalancheCAUTION Avalanche Danger: Before skiing on backcountry trails in mountainous areas, take the necessary avalanche safety precautions.
