Backcountry Skiing

Trails in many of Montana's national forests are suitable for backcountry skiing. Dozens of backcountry cabins are available for rent from the forest service at reasonable rates. Pick up a map of National Forest trails at the nearest ranger station as maps are seldom available at the trailhead. When skiing in backcountry areas, it is especially important to follow the basic winter safety precautions.

AvalancheCAUTION Avalanche Danger: Before skiing on backcountry trails in mountainous areas, take the necessary avalanche safety precautions.
