Map of Oregon Ski Areas

Oregon has 30 cross-country ski areas, mostly ungroomed trail networks located in the Cascade Mountains. Mount Bachelor is the Northwest's foremost cross-country ski center with over 50 km of groomed trails. About 18 backcountry cabins and lookouts can be rented from the forest service.

Cross-country skiing is possible at some of the many Sno-Parks located throughout the state but a Sno-Park sticker must be displayed on your car.

Backcountry Skiing

Many of Oregon's wilderness areas are suitable for backcountry skiing. When skiing in backcountry areas, it is especially important to follow the basic winter safety precautions.

Wing Ridge Hut Sysytem in the Wallowa Mountains of Northeast Oregon has log cabins and wall tents for backcountry ski touring. Backcountry cabins can be rented from many of the national forests.

Pick up a map of backcountry trails before heading out--maps are seldom available at the trailhead. There are several guidebooks for backcountry skiing in Oregon.

AvalancheCAUTION Avalanche Danger: Before skiing on backcountry trails in mountainous areas, take the necessary avalanche safety precautions.
