Map of Wyoming

Wyoming's 11 cross-country ski areas are situated in the northwest and southeast regions of the state. Yellowstone National Park offers trails at two locations: Old Faithful and Mammoth Hot Springs. Only Mammoth is accessible by car--most roads through the park are not plowed in winter. Old Faithful can only be reached by snow coach or snowmobile.

Backcountry Skiing

Many of Wyoming's wilderness areas are suitable for backcountry skiing. When skiing in backcountry areas, it is especially important to follow the basic winter safety precautions. Pick up a map of backcountry trails at the nearest ranger station as maps are seldom available at the trailhead.

AvalancheCAUTION Avalanche Danger: Before skiing on backcountry trails in mountainous areas, take the necessary avalanche safety precautions.
