Name of XC Area: Bucksteep Manor
Area number: MA7
Times that I have skied there: Once
I last skied there in: Feb, 2005
Trails that I skied:
My favorite trails:
Trail marking: Poor
Trail grooming: Poor
Rating: 2 stars
What I liked: Some were scenic and nicely wooded.
What I disliked: Trails not wide enough and they were tracked on steep up hills and down hills making it difficult to get an edge or snow plow. The track setter could not be pulled up so tracks also set during grooming.
Comments: the snack area was great and the food also. The tavern also was very nice. If they just did a better job on the trails it would be a great place.

What I liked: Interesting intermediate trails (slight curves on downhills). Good trail width.

Trails that I skied: have tried most of the trails
My favorite trails:
Trail marking: Very good
Trail grooming: Very good
Rating: 4 stars
What I liked:
What I disliked: Beginners should know that this ski center is very hilly. You're either going UP or DOWN - very little flat terrain for beginners.
Basically, a good afternoon at Northfield means a long climb UP followed by a very pleasant, long glide DOWN.

What I liked: We took a day trip from the CT shoreline (2+ hours) and it was well worth the trip. The center is at the top of a mountain and there was a mix of interesting trails for all levels.
What I disliked: The trail from the lodge is fairly steep, and busy with people going up and down. It was a little icy the day we were there and difficult to maneuver.
Comments: I loved this place. The trails were well groomed and the scenery is beautiful.
I am a novice skier, but managed to get up Lone Boulder Hill for the 3 State View. It was well worth it!
