Name of XC Area: Mount Haggin Ski Trails
Area number: MT15
Times that I have skied there: Several times
I last skied there in: Jan, 2004
Trails that I skied: crooked john, little california
My favorite trails: little california
Trail marking: Very good
Trail grooming: Very good
Rating: 5 stars
What I liked: Spectacular mountain views, I believe the trails are thoroughly groomed every Saturday morning. Lots of room on the trails for passing, etc.
What I disliked: I don't like the fact that dogs aren't allowed on the trails. It is simply not true that dogs ruin the trails. Most other XC areas I have been to allow dogs as long as the owners pick their droppings up off the trail. I know that this is a concern of other XC skiers/dog owners. I believe that you could take your dog to Mt. Haggin and technically, there is nothing to keep you from doing so as this is public land.
Comments: Great soup/desserts/coffee at the Soup Shack across the road from the parking area.

What I liked: everything, scenery, area, not a lot of people, it was great.
What I disliked: Had to walk a ways to get to the actual trails if you didn't stay in the cabooses.
Comments: Izzak Walton is a great place to stay. Recommend it to everyone. They hold xc events like the Snow Rodeo Easter weekend. Can't beat it.

My favorite trails: Spire Loop

Rating: 5 stars
What I liked: Great views to the Pintler range, good snow.
What I disliked: The trails are a bit boring -- kind of like skiing logging roads. And they're cut too wide.
Comments: The groomers can be very belligerent. Apparently, they refuse to accept the FWP ruling that, because this is a wildlife management area, dogs ARE permitted.
